because the magazine is based around school,i tried to make it presentable as possible. thats why i used someone to model for the magazine wearing a suit then them wearing casual clothes. by the model looking formal it makes the magazine look more noticable to the readers because it adds a certain type of style to it.

 

Preliminary Task:

for our preliminary task we had to design a school magazine and a contents page. My school magazine is called ‘Pass 4 Stars’. The magazine was aimed for school kids to read and to help them pass their exams and the magazine will also have tips on how to study to get ready for exams.

Hip hop fashion, also known as big fashion, is a distinctive style of dress originating from African American, Latin and other inner city youth on the scene of New York City later followed by Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay Area, Detroit, Memphis, Virginia, Atlanta, St. Louis and others. Each city contributed various elements to its overall style seen worldwide today. Hip hop fashion complements the expressions and attitudes of hip hop culture in general. Hip hop fashion has changed significantly during its history, and today, it is a prominent part of popular fashion as a whole across the world and for all ethnicities.

fashion as a whole has definitely influenced the rap game. it has made alot of artists to be creative and find their own style which suits them and also has inspired them to make their own clothing brand .

Front cover: most importantly the person on the front cover is the face of the magazine. it also represents the type of genre the magazine will be about. This magazine is a rap magazine  called XXL and they used someone very important to the genre named Snoop Dogg.

The heading: the heading represents what the magazine is about and its one of the main focuses when you see the magazine

The font: the font of the writing is very important so is the font size. This is important so that the reader can see what the magazine is talking about. The font also appeals to the type of magazine its about and the font used in this magazine is an old school vibe which also relates to the artist on the front cover

What does rapping mean?

Rap is actually a very old word. You can find the term popping up as early as the 15th and 16th century in Britain. Initially the word rap meant to strike or to hit.  A few centuries later a slight variation of this definition appeared which meant to speak or talk. In America around the 1960’s it began to pop up in the black community and was used as a slang word to mean that someone was talking or having a conversation.

My top 3 most influential rap artists:

Tupac

The essence of an MC – lyrics, flow, stage presence (ie. an MC that could Move the Crowd).  Arguably, no other rapper has left a greater legacy than Tupac.  The greatest contradiction in hip hop – social activist on one hand, artist at other times, violent mysogenist at others – Tupac LIVED his moto of Thug Life every single day.  Tupac’s impact transcended music like so many of the greats of the past.

Nas
Probably the most introspective rapper to ever make an album.  Nas is the modern day North American Griot – weaving intricate stories with a flow that few can ever capture.  By his own admission, his experiments with the Nas Escobar-esq image didn’t work – when he went back to being just Nas from the ‘Bridge everything was right again.  Hip Hop is Dead got a lot of people talking and far from being a ‘hater’ Nas was just trying to instill some fresh vibes to the game.

Biggie small

No other rapper had a better flow than Biggie. Period.  His timing was impeccable, his delivery – lethal.  Biggie’s only fault was his limited subject range – he rarely gave insights into deeper thoughts.  But at the end of the day, who cares?  To this day, any time a Biggie track comes on at a party or club – the whole atmosphere changes.  And that was what Bigge did – he ‘moved the crowd’ as an MC should.
